Fairmont Heights Advances to Regional Final

On Saturday night the Fairmont Heights High School Boys’ Basketball team took on Surrattsville High School in the 1A North Region semifinal.Kavan

Fairmont Heights was led by Sr. Guard and captain Kavan Sclafford, who has been the centerpiece of the hornets offensive attack fro the last four years. On Saturday Sclafford fought through a game of stifling defense to post a game-high 28 points and take his team to heights the group has never reached.

The Fairmont attack Saturday was sparked by a group of first half 3-pointers that gave the Fairmont a good lead.  Surrattsville’s defensive strategy was mainly to keep the ball out of Sclaffords hands, but no matter their defensive approach, it mattered little, as the lightning-quick senior attacked the rim repeatedly, opening up shots for both he and his transition-happy teammates.

On a couple occasions in the second half, Surrattsville was able to cut into Fairmont’s lead down to 3-4pts.  However, at the blink of an eye the Hornets lead would jump eight to nine points consistently.

The Hornets were able to beat off the hosts defensive attack and take home a 69-58 victory over the PGC rival.

Fairmont Heights (7-17) 15 13 15 26 — 69

Surrattsville (8-16) 11 9 19 18 — 58
